Update: Fire Ignites Along Highway 4 In Calaveras County

Update at 12:55pm: CAL Fire reports that the forward rate of spread on a vegetation fire burning near Angels Camp has been stopped at around five acres. There are no structures threatened. Air resources are now being released back to Columbia. What ignited the fire remains under investigation. The CHP will continue to help with traffic control on Highway 4, near Borbe Ranch Road, during the mop-up.

Original story posted at 12:30pm: Angels Camp, CA — There is a vegetation fire burning along the edge of Highway 4 near Borbe Ranch Road in the Angels Camp area.

The CHP reports that officers are on scene directing traffic on Highway 4 near the fire. CAL Fire reports the blaze is 4-5 acres, and it’s not immediately clear if there are any structures threatened. What ignited the fire is unknown. Air and ground resources are on scene.
