Alpine County, CA — A fire burning in the Mokelumne Wilderness of the Stanislaus National Forest has grown another 115 acres.
Forest Service Spokesperson Veronica Lopez says, “The Mokelumne Fire has burned 665 acres and it is 60% contained. Smoke may be visible in the Ebbetts Pass and Hermit Valley (campground) areas this Labor Day weekend, which is something to keep in mind for all visitors.”
The Forest Service is still anticipating full containment by September 20. It was caused by a lightning strike on August 18 and it is being managed for ecological benefit. There are 37 firefighters assigned as of this morning. There are three hand crews and two helicopters on scene. There are no evacuations or campground closures in place.
