Fire Near Early Intake Is 187 Acres

Tuolumne County, CA — A fire burning near the Early Intake Powerhouse in the Stanislaus National Forest is 50% contained and 187 acres.

Last night the Forest Service estimated the size to be 65 acres. The higher number is due to better mapping as opposed to new fire growth.

Stanislaus National Forest Spokesperson Clare Long says, “The fire is burning in the old Rim Fire scar area so it’s going through a lot of grass and some light brushy area. Last night they were able to stop the progression of the fire so they are basically trying to make sure they’re putting out what’s on fire inside the perimeter area. We have three hotshot crews on scene right now and one type two team as well. We were using aircraft in the past, and have them on standby, if we need to bring them in for anything. The hand crews, and the work they did last night, allowed us to get a good handle on the fire.”

The Forest Service is encouraging everyone to use extra caution today as fire risk is at its peak for the season. Long adds, There’s very low humidity, and there’s a storm front coming in, so there’s the possibility for wind. We ask everyone to be very careful today with any fire or any type of sparks. It’s the highest level (fire risk) it’s been all year.”
