Mokelumne Fire Burns Nearly 220 Acres

Alpine County, CA — The Mokelumne Fire burning in the Stanislaus National Forest is up to 30% containment and nearly 220 acres.

The fire was ignited by lightning on August 18th and the Forest Service has been managing it for ecological benefits. Full containment is anticipated by October 15. As of yesterday, there were 34 firefighters assigned, two helicopters and two hand crews. The fire is situated in the Mokelumne Wilderness in Alpine County. Fire behavior has been low and minimal smoke has been reported in surrounding communities. Some campgrounds impacted by the smoke include Hermit Valley, Pacific Valley, Lake Alpine and Camp Irene. There are no evacuation orders in place. The eastern flank of the fire remains inaccessible due to the steep terrain.
