Planting Trees In Rim Fire Area

Sonora, CA — The Stanislaus National Forest is seeking help to plant trees in the Rim Fire burn scar.

Forest Service Spokesperson Rebecca Garcia says, “We are endeavoring to plant 90,000 trees this coming spring in the Rim Fire burn area, and we are going to do that entirely with the help of the public and all interested stakeholders.”

In partnership with the Tuolumne River Trust, four public meetings will be held this month to recruit and inform volunteers for tree planting efforts that will take place throughout the spring.

Meetings will be held at the Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor’s Office on Greenley Road on January 14 at 6pm, January 16 at 3pm and January 23 at 3pm. In addition, a meeting will be held at the Groveland Community Hall on January 21 at 7pm.

The Forest Service reports that all interested individuals, groups, or families are invited to partake.

The Rim Fire ignited on August 17, 2013 and burned 257,314 acres.
