Supervisors Will Discuss Jail And Ackerson Meadow

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will decide whether to weigh in on the planned sale of Ackerson Meadow, and hear the latest cost estimates for the new jail.

Earlier this year the Supervisors expressed some concerns about a plan by the Trust For Public Land to purchase the 400 acre Ackerson Meadow so that it can be donated to Yosemite National Park. The county created a stakeholder group to develop a proposal that addresses the board’s specific concerns on this matter. The Supervisors will hear the latest update on Tuesday and decide how to proceed. County documents note that the Trust for Public Land is hoping to have the property purchased by January 4th and then hash out the legal agreements that need to be completed in time for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, which occurs on August 25th.

In addition, the Supervisors will hear a report on the costs of the future Tuolumne County Jail.  The county is receiving a combined $33-million in state grant money. In April, the estimated total project cost was around $44.2-million, and the latest estimate is now closer to $47.5 million.

Tuesday’s meeting will start at 9am in the Board of Supervisors meeting room.
