More Californians are planning to hit the road this Thanksgiving holiday.
AAA projects that 5.7 million state residents will travel 50 miles or more over the four-day holiday weekend. That’s an increase of just under 1% compared to last year. AAA notes that the lower price of gas is a contributing to the slight uptick. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.71 in California, which is down by about 70 cents from last year. Gas is selling in Sonora as low as $2.39 according to the myMotherLode.com gas price section.
When breaking down the numbers, AAA predicts that five-million Californians will travel by car, 616,000 will fly and 180,000 will travel by another mode of transportation, such as a boat or train. Air travelers can expect increased security over the holiday so AAA recommends arriving at the airport at least 2-3 hours prior to the flight time.
