Sonora Steamrolls To Championship Game

Sonora, CA — For a second straight year, the Wildcats head to the big game after a huge win. Sonora put on an offensives display Friday night while the defense held the challenger to only a touchdown.

Nate Gookin, Josh Harris, and Sammy Page scored on the ground and Kane Rodgers had a pair of touchdowns with one on the ground and the other on a tremendous fully out stretched diving catch in the end zone.  Brett McCutchen punched two scores over the goal line.  Wyatt Faughnan hauled in a touchdown pass from Sammy Rogers to keep the Wildcat offense balanced.

The Sonora defense played a strong game, only allowing a score late in the 3rd quarter. The Wildcats also stopped Orestimba’s almost 2000-yard rusher, holding him to well under his average yardage.  Sonora soundly defeated the Orestimba Warriors, 62-6.

Next Saturday at 1 p.m., the No. 1 Wildcats play in the Division V Sac-Joaquin Section Championship at Elk Grove High against No. 6 seed Bear River.

Unfortunately, Sierra eliminated the Calaveras from the finals with a 34-20 victory over the Redskins.
