Update: Vegetation Fire Near Chinese Camp Contained

Update at 6:15 pm: Cal Fire reports the flames have been contained at less than an acre in size on Highway 120 and Perri Cone Road. The CHP reports after hitting and shearing the power pole, the vehicle fled the scene. The pole was blocking the highway, but traffic is moving now.

Update at 5:45pm: Cal Fire reports the aircraft have been called off the fire on Highway 120 and Perri Cone Road as ground crews are getting a handle on the one acre blaze.

Original Post at 5:35pm: Chinese Camp, CA — Firefighters and Columbia aircraft are on the scene of a vegetation fire at the intersection of Highway 120 and Perri Cone Road near Chinese Camp in Tuolumne County. Cal Fire reports a vehicle hit a power pole and brought down the lines, which ignited nearby grass. The fire is one acre in size and the rate of spread is slow, according to Cal Fire Dispatch. 

The CHP reports that the impact sheared the pole bringing it down and blocking the westbound lane of the highway. Officers are directing traffic, which is getting backed up.

PG&E has also been called to the scene. There is no word on injuries.
