Update: Mariposa County Fire Contained

Update 4:30 p.m.: Cal Fire reports the fire is contained at 52 acres.

Original Post 3:55 p.m.: Hornitos, CA – Cal Fire reports a vegetation fire in Mariposa County is 52 acres, but firefighters have stopped the forward rate of spread.

The flames broke out around 2 p.m. on Mount Gains and Hornitos roads, which is between Mariposa and the town of Hornitos, near the Tuolumne County line, west of Highway 49. Cal Fire reports a woman spotted the flames in some grass and called 911.

Columbia Air-attack and a tanker helped battle the blaze for about an hour and have since returned to base. Resources remaining on scene include about 50 firefighters, 10 engines, 2 hand crews, 2 dozers, and 2 water tenders, according to Cal Fire. No structures have been threatened and there is no word on what sparked the blaze.
