Sierra Nevada Winter Weather Watch Issued For Halloween

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Nevada above 5000 feet from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.

Two to nine inches of snow accumulation is expected above 5000 feet. Five to twelve inches of snow is likely above 7000 feet.

The heaviest snowfall will occur from 5 PM Friday through 11 AM Saturday.

Winds of twenty to thirty mph are likely with gusts up to sixty mph.

This is the first significant snow of the season. Travel may be difficult due to snow covered roads. Chain restrictions are probable. Reduced visibility during heavier snow will make driving hazardous. Carry a winter survival kit.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow that may impact travel.
