Planning Forest Snow Trails

Sonora, CA — The Forest Service wants your help in planning snowmobile trails as a result of a court settlement and revisions to its Travel Management Regulations.

The Pacific Southwest Region of Forests, which includes the Stanislaus National Forest, is currently analyzing snowmobile use on maintained trails and off groomed routes.  Forest officials want to get your feedback on the issue.

“Public participation is essential for the project’s success,” says Forest Service spokesperson Rebecca Garcia.  “First we have to determine what need there is when it comes to over-snow vehicles and trails.  It’s going to be a matter of identifying usage, trails, routes, and areas.”

A meeting for the Stanislaus National Forest has been scheduled for November 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sonora Oaks Best Western Inn on Hess Avenue.  The other four forests involved are the Lassen, Tahoe, Eldorado, and Plumas National Forests.

One note, earlier this year the Stanislaus National Forest settled a lawsuit filed on behalf of the Twain Harte based Central Sierra Environmental Resource Council (CSERC) regarding motorized Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) routes.  You can click here to view that story.
