Paint Fire 40% Contained

Fowler Peak, CA — Cal Fire reports the forward rate of spread has been stopped in the Paint Fire near Fowler Peak in Calaveras County. The fire is 40% contained at 4 to 5 acres.

Cal Fire Spokesperson Lisa Williams says crews cutting down a tree lost control of it and the tree fell onto power lines sparking the blaze.  She adds there has been spotting outside of the containment lines. An outhouse that was initially threatened, but is no longer in danger.

The flames broke out at 10:46 this morning in thick brush in the 3000 block of Paint Road, which is between Copperopolis and Angels Camp.  The roadway is open to residents only. PG&E is on scene working to repair the power lines, which is only affecting two customers at this time.
