Near Containment Of El Portal Fire

Sonora, CA — The El Portal Fire is up to 96% contained, and full containment is expected late today.

Yosemite officials report that the fire is 4,689 acres. 1,092 acres have burned in Yosemite National Park, and 3,597 acres in the Stanislaus National Forest. There remains some smoldering and creeping in the northern portion of the perimeter. Full containment is expected at 10 o’clock tonight.

The transition is underway from the Type 1 incident management team, to a smaller Type 3 team. A notable drawdown of resources will take place today.
