More Progress On El Portal And Sand Fires

The El Portal Fire that started in Yosemite, and is also burning in the Stanislaus National Forest, is up to 3,545 acres, and it is 34% contained.

864 firefighters are now on scene.  There remains no access to Yosemite Valley via Highway 120 due to a closure along Big Oak Flat Road in the park. Visitors entering on Highway 120 can still access Tioga Pass. Evacuation orders have been lifted for Old El Portal, but remain in place for Foresta.

Progress is being made extinguishing the Sand Fire in Amador and El Dorado Counties. The size estimate is up to 4,240 acres, and it is 90% contained. Enough progress has been made that there are no longer any road closures near the fire, and all evacuations have been lifted. CAL Fire has determined the fire was caused by a vehicle driving into dry vegetation.
