Forest Warns About Fireworks

Sonora, CA — Campgrounds in the Stanislaus National Forest will be busy this weekend, and Forest Service officials have a warning about fireworks.

Spokesperson Veronica Garcia points out that it is illegal to use, or simply possess, fireworks in national forests. Regulations are enforced, and violations are punishable with a fine up to $5,000. Violators could also face jail time.

Campers are also reminded to fully extinguish all campfires with water, and a shovel, until the coals are cool to touch. There are increased fire concerns across the state this year due to the record drought.
