Yosemite, CA — Monday marks a historical milestone for Yosemite National Park. The Park will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Yosemite Grant.
One of the main events will be the groundbreaking for the Mariposa Grove Restoration Project.
“Right now we’ve got this parking lot that’s on top of all these shallow Sequoia tree roots and it’s really having an impact on them,” says Ranger Kari Cobb, “We are going to be pulling out that parking lot and creating boardwalks that go through the grove.”
The project is slated to be completed in 2016. One other note, if you are heading to the ceremony, you will want to get there early.
Cobb says, “At the ceremony you won’t be able to drive into the grove. We have actually created a shuttle bus system that is specifically designed to bring people into the grove.”
