On The Wrong Track

A new poll found 46% of Californians think the state is headed in the wrong direction with 41% believing it is moving in the right direction. In addition, 47% of voters disapprove of the state legislature’s job performance while 35% approve.

The Field Poll showed party affiliation was a major factor in those opinions. Democrats had a more optimistic job assessment of the legislature by a nearly two-to-one margin.  Republicans had a 70% negative view versus 21% who see the state heading in the right direction.  Non-partisans offer a somewhat more negative assessment, with 37% believing the state is moving in the right direction and 47% on the wrong track.

Those living along the coast versus inland also have differing views. By a nearly two-to-one margin, inland county voters believe the state is seriously on the wrong track.  A slightly larger portion of coastal county voters feel the state is moving in the right direction by a 44% to 41% that disapprove.
