HWY 108 Fire Grows

Sonora, CA — Cal Fire has reassessed the acres involved in the vegetation fire along Highway 108. It is now 11 acres, there is still no containment, but the forward rate of spread has been stopped.

The fire broke out near the Tuolumne County Law and Justice Center property just before 2 pm.  Luckily, no structures were threatened, but Highway 108 was closed down near the Washington Street and Lime Kiln Road intersection for about an hour. The redirected traffic also caused backups on Mono Way.

Crews will remain on scene mopping up the fire throughout the evening. At the height of the fire, there were 11 engines, 1 dozer, 2 hand crews, 2 water tenders, 1 air tanker and 1 helicopter.  Tuolumne Fire Department and the Tuolumne Fire Protection District assisted in the battling the blaze. There is no estimated time of full containment. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
