Vegetation Fire In Forest

Stanislaus National Forest, CA — Firefighters and Columbia Air Attack are fighting a two acre blaze off Buchanan Road near Hunter Creek in the Stanislaus National Forest east of Tuolumne City. Forest Service officials say the flames are moving at a moderate rate of spread, but they are getting a handle on the fire.  There is no containment at this time.

The resources on the ground include 5 engines, 2 water tenders, and 3 hand crews.  In the air, there are 2 helicopters, 2 air tankers and Air Attack. We will bring you more information as soon as it is available.

Update 11:15 am: Forest Service officials say crews almost have a fire line completely around the blaze.  Also, the two air tankers have been called off the fire and the two helicopters are on standby.

Update 12 pm:  Forest Service officials say the forward rate of spread has been stopped and crews have another 200 feet of line to cut around the flames. The problem is standing dead trees that are making it unsafe for firefighters to work in that area according to Forest Service officials.  Two Cal Fire helicopters and engines continue to assist forest firefighter in battling the blaze.
