No Reprieve For Twain Harte Lawns

Twain Harte, CA – Just days after Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) voted to allow lawn watering again, the Twain Harte Community Services District (THCSD) Board on Thursday unanimously voted to keep its ban in place.

As a wholesale customer of TUD, the district is required to meet a mandatory cutback of 50% in its water usage.   THCSD General Manager Tom Trott says the community managed to conserve 41% in May, but with the summer months ahead and the added population, reaching 50% will be even harder.

“I think the prudent thing to do is keep restrictions where they’re at,” said Trott. “To relax on water restrictions when we’re going into the heaviest usage time of the year and our water supply is still stretched, to me, I think it sends the wrong message.”

To bolster water supplies, the district is drilling a new well at Eporson Park on Monday in hopes of supplementing the community’s water supply. The well will cost $445,000.  The District has applied for two state drought emergency grants.
