T.U.D. Rates Going Up

Sonora, CA — The T.U.D. Board of Directors has voted 3-2 to increase water rates starting in July.

The 2.78% increase will go into effect for the fiscal year 2014-15. It was noted that the average ratepayer will see an increase of about $1.23 per month, and it will bring in approximately $260,000 to the district. Voting in favor were Board members John Maciel, Delbert Rotelli and Ruanne Mikkelsen, and opposed were Mike Sarno and Kent Johnson.

A similar 2.78% rate increase went into effect this past January. Sarno argued that the Board should wait until next January to implement the new rate hike. Johnson, meanwhile stated that he wanted to have the issue postponed until a later meeting.

All customers must be given a written 30-day notice before the rate increase can take effect.
