“Vision Sonora” A Winner

Sonora, CA — The “Vision Sonora” project has won an award for outstanding planning.

The Central California Section of the national organization “American Planning Association” has awarded the project with an “Outstanding Planning Award in Urban Design”.  The project and RBF Consulting were recognized for outstanding achievement in land use planning and best practices.

“We should all be proud,” says Sonora City Council Member Bill Canning. He believes the project won because of its community outreach.  “I think it was all the community effort and not just the city residents or city businesses. Tuolumne County people took part in it also and made a cohesive design,” says Canning.

The Central Section includes Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Stanislaus, Tulare and Tuolumne Counties.

In March, the Tuolumne County Transportation Council agreed to set aside money to move forward on two of the Vision Sonora projects. The plan was created last year in an effort to create a roadmap for making mobility and aesthetic improvements in the downtown district.
