Camp Mather near Yosemite

Tuolumne County, CA — Tuolumne County lends its voice in hopes the Strawberry Music Festival will be heard. The festival did not take place last fall due to the Rim Fire, and damage from the blaze threatens to cancel it for a second time.

The camp is in Tuolumne County, but owned by San Francisco.   San Francisco Parks and Recreation Officials have safety concerns in the closed off Rim Fire areas. Officials are also concerned about having enough water for the nearly five to seven-thousand visitors the festival attracts.

At today’s meeting, Supervisors voted unanimously to sending letter to the City and County of San Francisco asking that a permit be issued to Camp Mather.

District 2 Supervisor Randy Hanvelt says, “The Rim Fire was a terrible disaster, but we’ve got to stop using it as an excuse not to do things. We have to recover.  We can’t keep crying over the Rim Fire. Let’s restore our community and our culture that we have up here and let’s make it [festival] happen.”

It was noted that an additional line be added to the letter conveying to San Francisco officials the board and staff will work with them as much as possible to make the festival happen.
