Supervisors Will Vote On Mono Way Funding

Sonora, CA – The Tuolumne County Supervisors will vote whether to put up the extra money needed to cover the Mono Way widening project.

As reported previously, the lowest bid was nearly $1 million above the City of Sonora Engineer’s estimate. The widening project is a joint effort between the city and county. The Supervisors will vote whether to spend an additional $959K in Traffic Impact Mitigation Fee funding to cover the extra costs. The project will widen Mono Way from Greenley Road to Fir Drive.

The County will also decide whether to formally rescind permits issued to Blue Mountain Minerals for the expansion of their fill site. The county approved the project, but it was later stalled due to a lawsuit filed by the Central Sierra Environmental Resources Center. Blue Mountain Minerals is requesting that the permits be rescinded, as the company is now planning to conduct a full Environmental Impact Report, rather than try to fight the lawsuit.

 

In addition, the Supervisors will hold a public hearing related to a Natural Childbirth Facility project in the 16500 block of Draper Mine Road. The applicants, Ellen Jasmer, Sara Painter and Jennifer Painter, plan to convert an existing residence into a birthing center. The project was approved by the Planning Commission, but an appeal was made, so it will now be heard by the Board of Supervisors. Some neighbors have written letters to the county with complaints ranging from the increased traffic that would result, to concerns that it would drop the nearby property values.

 

The Supervisors will also vote on approving 2013-14 mid-year budget adjustments.
