February Is Heart Month

San Andreas, CA — Mother Lode women are being offered free cholesterol test throughout the month. The tests are part of the “Take It To Heart Program which is a joint event by Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) and Soroptimist International of Calaveras County.

“Heart disease is the #1 killer of women over the age of 25,” says Craig Marks the Hospital President. “Last year over 500 Calaveras county women benefitted from our free Cholesterol screenings.”

MTMC says the screening is also known as a lipid panel, the test measures good and bad cholesterol and triglycerides helping to identify women at greater risk of heart disease and stroke. A 12 hour fast is recommended or no food after midnight. No appointment is need, but you will need a proof of address.

The tests are being done at the hospital’s laboratory and at the MTCM Family Medical Centers in Angels Camp, Arnold, Copperopolis, and Valley Springs.
