Update: Crash On HWY 49 In Calaveras County Results In Fatality

Update 12:20 p.m.: Sadly, the CHP reports a two-vehicle crash on Highway 49 in the San Andreas area of Calaveras County resulted in the death of a 50-year-old woman. Her identity is not being released pending notification of family. The collision happed around 7:30 a.m., between O Connell Lane and Cement Road.

San Andreas Unit CHP Sgt. Jennifer Hammun reported a Nissan Altima sedan and a Dodge Ram pickup were involved in the collision, detailing, “For unknown reasons at this time, the truck crossed over the double-yellow lines into the lane of the Altima, and both vehicles hit head-on. So we have on fatality out of that.”

Traffic was backed up for over an hour as tow crews worked to remove the wreckage and officers directed travelers. Sgt. Hammun relays that alcohol did not play a role in this crash.

Updated at 8:55 a.m.: The CHP reports tow crews have removed the wreckage from a two-vehicle crash on Highway 49, between O Connell Lane and Cement Road. The CHP reported that a Nissan sedan and a Dodge Ram pickup collided with the sedan having major front-end damage and the truck overturned. Traffic was backed up in both directions for over an hour, but the road was is clear and traffic is moving freely once again. Currently, there is no information on injuries.

Original post at 8:13 a.m.: San Andreas, CA — Traffic is backed up along Highway 49 in the San Andreas area after a two-vehicle collision where an air ambulance has been called to the scene.

The CHP reports that a Nissan sedan and a Dodge Ram pickup have collided between O Connell Lane and Cement Plant roads. The sedan has major front-end damage and the truck is overturned. Officers are directing traffic, so once again it is getting backed up in both directions and travelers may want to find an alternative route as there is plenty of activity in the area. An air ambulance has been called to the scene but there is no word on injuries at this time. More details will be reported as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
