Tuolumne County, CA — Rim Fire Officials have pushed back the containment date for a second time. They say the Rim Fire is 95% contained with 100% containment in forest service lands. What is still burning is in Yosemite National Park.
Forest Spokesperson Michelle Carbonaro says, “The containment date has been pushed back to October 27th. That is due to a 500 to 1,000 acre pocket of vegetation that is left unburned right now. It proposes a potential to still burn.”
Forest Service officials say the acreage has not grown. It is still 257,135 acres or 402 square miles that have burned. There are 196 firefighters on scene and the cost is up to $127.2 million.
Forest Fire Officials report the fire behavior continues to be creeping and smoldering. They now estimate to have full containment of the Rim Fire by October 27th.
