Tuolumne County, CA — The Rim Fire Incident Command is still projecting full containment by around October 1st.
Overnight the fire grew four acres to 257,134 and it remains 84% contained. The 16% remaining is in the Yosemite and Emigrant Wilderness areas between Cherry Lake and Hetch Hetchy. 1,099 firefighters are on scene today, and the cost to fight the flames is up to $123.5 million.
Incident Command Spokesperson Gary Wuchner says the fire activity has definitely slowed following the recent rainfall. He notes that the Incident Command duties will likely be returned to local teams with the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park by the weekend. The fire is currently under a Type II Incident Management Team.
Highway 120 is completely open, but motorists are not allowed to stop along the road adjacent to the fire perimeter. Hazards to be aware of include rocks and debris in the roads, smoke, weakened trees and hot burning stump holes.
