Rim Fire: October 1st Containment Date

Tuolumne County, CA — The projected full containment date of the Rim Fire has been pushed down the road a ways.

“Right now, we’re looking at October 1st,” says Incident Command Spokesperson Michelle Jimenez-Holtz. “It is because we still have that uncontained line in the northeast corner, which is around Cherry Lake and Hetch Hetchy.”

Initially, the Incident Command reported that they were shooting for a September 20 containment date, which is today. A Red Flag Fire warning is in effect for the Stanislaus National Forest from 11am today through 11am Saturday. The Incident Command reports that high winds could result in an increased amount of fire activity, especially among unburned areas within the existing perimeter of the fire.

The fire is 84% contained and nearly 257-thousand acres. 1,380 firefighters are on scene. The cost to fight the fire is up to $118.1 million.
