Coast Guard Rescues Boaters Near Alcatraz

The Coast Guard had to rescue five people from San Francisco Bay after their boat hit a rock west of Alcatraz and began sinking.

A Coast Guard spokesman said the 36-foot yacht hit a rock called “Little Alcatraz´´ yesterday afternoon. The rock punched a large hole in the boat´s hull.

The Coast Guard auxiliary vessel Silver Charm picked up the five people. The yacht was towed to shore for repairs. Nobody was hurt during the incident.
