State’s Courthouses: Major Quake Risk

A new report says nearly half of California´s court buildings evaluated for seismic safety are at risk of collapse if there is a significant earthquake.

The report by the state Administrative Office of the Courts says that of 300 court buildings in the state 147 could sustain structural damage and pose a substantial risk to life if there was a major quake. According to the report scheduled to be released today only 72 of the buildings examined by structural engineers reached the state´s seismic safety bar.
