One Killed In Fire Truck Accident

Byron, CA — One person is dead and three others injured following a fire-truck crash over the weekend.

Officials say The Eastern Contra Costa Fire District engine was on its way to a brush-fire near Byron when it reportedly hit two vehicles. The fire was located off of Interstate 580 near the Shaefer Ranch Road off-ramp.

Officers closed one lane of the highway after flames from a disabled vehicle ignited some grass on the roadside. The fire then spread into a nearby field and grew to about 500 acres.

CDF responded with 20 firefighters and a helicopter shortly before 2:30 in the afternoon. Police say one truck responding to the blaze apparently hit two vehicles at Vasco Road and Camino Diablo.

Officials say 4 people were flown to area hospitals where one person was declared dead.
