Racing Puts Copperopolis Teen In Serious Condition

Copperopolis, CA — 18-year-old Joshua Nunes of Copperopolis is listed serious condition after receiving major injuries during a traffic collision Saturday.

The CHP reports Nunes and 16-year old Brittney Stone were racing after leaving a friends house.

Both were driving 1980s style Hondas down Beaver Road towards Cheyenne Road at 55 miles per hour.

The CHP says as the cars came over a rise in the road there was a slight curve, which Nunes failed to negotiate. His car traveled onto the right shoulder before fishtailing and coming back onto the road striking the rear of Stone´s vehicle. Nunes continued across the roadway and struck a tree. Stone swerved to the right and struck a fire hydrant.

Nunes was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of a broken right foot, broken arms and lacerations to his face. As of Monday afternoon he was listed in serious condition.
