Sacramento, CA — State fire investigators say the fire near Patterson that destroyed several homes was started by a careless smoker.
The blaze burned over 54 square miles for more than a week as 2,000 firefighters worked to extinguish earlier this month. Smoke from this fire could be seen in many areas of the Mother Lode.
Authorities say they will conduct forensic testing to find the person responsible.
