Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest And Citations

Sonora, CA — An early morning traffic stop on Washington Street resulted in jail time and citations for two Modesto residents.

After 2:00am Tuesday, an officer from the Sonora Police Department stopped a vehicle for failing to dim its high beam headlights.

It was determined that the driver, 31 year old David Machado didn´t have a valid drivers´ license and is on felony probation for a weapons violation.

During the stop, the officer made contact with one of the passengers, who was identified as 43 year old Margaret Janis.

During a search of her purse, a glass-smoking pipe along with .9 grams of methamphetamine were found.

Janis was taken into custody and booked for; transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Machado was cited and released for; driving without valid drivers´ license, and failure to dim headlights.
