Gas Prices Affecting Holiday Travel

Sonora, CA — Year after year of rising gas prices appears to be making an impact in Mother Lode resident´s travel plans.

AAA of Northern California says although the number of people planning to travel this Memorial Day weekend is up slightly over last year, Californians are increasingly pointing to high gas prices as a reason for cutting back on their vacation plans.

Just under five million Californians are expected to travel 50 miles or more this Memorial Day weekend.

That is a less than one percent increase from last year. AAA says the majority of holiday travelers will be taking to the roads and highways. 80 percent of total travelers say they´ll travel by car.
