Thousands Honor Slain CHP Officer In Modesto

Modesto, CA — Thousands of law enforcement officers from throughout the country gathered in Modesto Thursday to attend services for a California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed last week.

Earl Scott was found dead on the side of Highway 99, about ten miles north of Modesto. He was the fifth CHP officer killed in the line of duty during the last five months.

Law enforcement vehicles led a procession down Highway 99. About 3,000 law enforcement officials came from as far away as Massachusetts to honor Scott.

Stanislaus County prosecutors said yesterday they will seek the death penalty for Columbus Junior Allen the second who is suspected of shooting Scott in the head.
