Local CHP Officers Say Plan Ahead For Super Bowl

Sonora, CA — The California Highway Patrol is warning football enthusiasts to play it safe this weekend.

Both the Calaveras and Tuolumne County CHP offices say they will be out in full force Super Bowl Sunday, which is the deadliest day for drinking and driving. Tom Wills with the Sonora area CHP office says to plan ahead by appointing a designated driver before hosting or traveling to a party.

Mike Maddox with the CHP in Calaveras County says last year 462 people were arrested for driving under the influence in California.

Wills advises motorists to be cautious while driving this weekend and believes wearing a seatbelt is the best way to increase safety. Maddox says that no matter who wins the big game, you lose if you go to jail.
