Funeral Services Set For Jerry Whitehead, Sr.

Tuolumne, CA — Funeral services will be held Friday for 79 year old Jerry Whitehead who died this past Friday after complications from a stroke he suffered eight years ago.

Whitehead served on the Board of Directors for Summerville High School from 1969-1973. He also served as a board member for the Tuolumne Park and Recreation District.

Whitehead served as the Tuolumne Volunteer Fire Protection District Chief for 26 years until he stepped down in 1980.

In appreciation of his extensive public service the Board of Supervisors passed a special resolution on September 14, 1999 that named the baseball field in Tuolumne the Jerry Whitehead, Sr. Field. It is still known by that name today.

He will also be remembered as the Great Pumpkin for the Tuolumne Halloween Parade, the Easter bunny for the Tuolumne Easter Parade and as Santa for the Tuolumne Christmas Parade.

Services are set for Friday noon at the Tuolumne Memorial Hall. Burial will take place at Carter´s Cemetary in Tuolumne.
