Governor Signs Berryhill Nursing Bill

Sacramento, Ca — Assemblyman Tom Berryhill has scored a political victory.

Assembly Bill 1559 which authorizes community college nursing programs to admit students based on their qualifications, rather than random selection, was signed by the Governor.

“This is going away, my biggest accomplishment,” says Berryhill. “This was the only bill in the Republican Health Reform Package that made it to the Governors desk, let alone be signed.”

Community Colleges will now be allowed to use criteria such as grade point average and relevant work experience to admit applicants to nursing programs.

Berryhill says the previous lottery system resulted in high dropout rates.
