Explosive Device Closes Hwy 108/120 Intersection

Jamestown, CA — Traffic was rerouted at the Yosemite Junction of Highways 108/120 Monday evening when a suspicious object was discovered by Norman Burke who was cleaning trash as part of the Adopt A Highway Program.

Burk noticed an object wrapped in black electrical tape at 6:25. He flagged down a CAL FIRE engine. The C.H.P. immediately responded and moved everyone 150 yards from the device.

According to C.H.P. Officer Tom Wills the Bomb Squad from the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department exploded the device. A secondary explosion indicated it was an explosive device. There were no injuries from either one of the explosions.

CALTRANS handled the cleanup and the highways were reopened at eleven o´clock.
