New Fire Restriction For Mother Lode Campground

Sonora, CA — Effective Wednesday of this week, campfires are no longer permitted in the Moore Creek Campground within the the Calaveras Ranger District.

This fire restriction prohibits campfires, briquette barbecues and smoking outside developed campgrounds in designated High Hazard Areas of the forest. Welding and blasting are also prohibited except by special permit.

This new restriction was made due to the continued high fire danger and extremely dry conditions found throughout much of California.

Violations of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six months or both.

This temporary fire restriction will remain in effect until the conclusion of the 2007 fire season.
