Contractor Bid To Construct Angels Camp Bypass Is Below Estimate

Angels Camp, Ca — The engineers assigned to the Angels Camp Bypass estimated that the total cost of construction would be $29.2 million.

Six contractors submitted bids to construct the project. Calaveras County Council of Governments Executive Director Tim McSorley says they ranged from $23.8 to $30 million. The lowest bid, $23.8 million, was submitted by Teichert Construction.

“The bid that they produced showed that they had the low dollar amount, but there is a process that Caltrans uses to confirm that the bid documents and the contractor are in full compliance with all the provisions in the public contract code,” says McSorley. “Caltrans will now take that bid, review it for compliance with the law, and at some point award them the formal contract if they comply with all the requirements.”

McSorely says he is hopeful that groundbreaking on the Angels Camp Bypass will occur in early September.
