Federal Funds Coming To California

Washington, D.C. — A Senate committee has approved money for California citrus growers, salmon fishermen, milk producers and levees in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

The money is part of a $122 billion measure financing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is $40 million for citrus farmers to replace trees damaged in the five-night freeze in January and $95 million for milk production losses due to the 2006 heat wave.

The Army Corps of Engineers also would get $94 million to repair 213 sites on the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers that were damaged by winter and spring storms in 2006.
