Bret Harte High Considers Athlete Hair Policy

Angels Camp, CA — Friday the Bret Harte Union School District is holding a special meeting to consider revising its athlete grooming policy.

A male student requested the change regarding hair length after he was banned from playing basketball because of his long hair. The old policy states that male athletes´ hair must be cut to at least the top-of-the-collar.

The proposed change for males and females reads,Hair should be of such length that it does not create a health or safety problem, and does not interfere with the athlete´s ability and level of play.”

The proposed policy also allows coaches to establish additional grooming standards.

The special meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the district boardroom at 323 South Main Street in Angels Camp.
