A Major Change Upcoming For Twain Harte Schools

Twain Harte, CA — All indications point to the closure of Black Oak Elementary School with the students moving to Twain Harte Middle School for the 2007-2008 school year.

This evening the Middle School will host a board meeting and one of the items on the agenda will be the possible closure of Black Oak Elementary School.

Twain Harte-Long Barn Union School District Superintendent Mike Brusa is calling for the change due to severely declining enrollment at the two schools. 10 years ago there were approximately 850 students at the two schools … now there are only 433.

Because schools are paid on the basis of attendance, revenues have dropped significantly. Brusa adds that declining attendance has been caused by an influx of Bay Area and valley residents who are retiring or by those well established in their respective careers with the resources to purchase Mother Lode property. Those individuals tend to have children in the middle and high school age bracket.
