Bear Specimen Travels To Big Trees

Arnold, CA — Calaveras Big Trees State Park has a new display that is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

It is a specimen of the American Black Bear measuring six feet long. The bear was brought to Big Trees from Frazier Park through efforts of the State Parks Department and the Calaveras Big Tress Association.

The bear was taxidermied after a car accident in 2001.

The California species of the American Black Bear ranges from the Central Valley north to southern Oregon. Most people don´t know that the American Black Bear can be brown, blonde and even white.

Park Ranger Jeff Davis says the bear was brought to Big Trees so visitors can appreciate the size and beauty of the black bear.

The Visitor´s Center is open on the weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 pm. during the winter months.
