Calaveras Senior Center Desperate For Funds

San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Senior Center in San Andreas says it is desperate and needs help to continue providing senior meals.

A letter sent to residents asking for donations says the center is failing to meet budget. And to offer the senior lunch program at a reasonable cost, the center is draining its savings.

Center President Ken McInturf says about three years ago the Area 12 Agency on Aging removed its kitchen equipment from the facility and terminated the senior meal program. Since then, the center put in all new equipment and began serving meals on its own. McInturf says this task is proving costly.

The center´s income consists of meeting room rentals and fundraisers. It also charges $4 per senior meal and $5 for non seniors. The center also has a policy that those who can´t afford to pay, don´t have to.

Aside from seeking donations, the center will also put on a fundraising dinner March 9 at the Metropolitan in San Andreas.

For more information contact McInturf at (209) 754-4078 or Sharon Meckel at 754-0930.
