Motorcyclist Surrenders After High Speed Chase

Sonora, CA — 42 year old Scott Smith of Jamestown turned himself in to the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Office early Sunday morning after being involved in a high speed chase on Hwy 108.

Sheriff´s deputies Vic Serrano and Alex Rivera made contact with Smith at Chicken Ranch Bingo and Casino. Later they became involved in a high speed chase with Smith when he ran the stop sign at Chicken Ranch Rd. and Hwy 108. Headed in a westbound direction Scott reached speeds in excess of 100mph passing vehicles on both sides of the road.

The deputies lost Smith but discovered the motorcycle at the intersection of Green Springs Rd. and LaGrange Rd. While units were searching the area Smith appeared at the Sheriff´s Office and turned himself in to authorities. Prescription narcotics were discovered in a storage pouch on the bike.

Smith was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Calaveras County and on a charge of felony evasion of a police officer.
